Our Mission
We are parents, family members, friends, and community stakeholders fighting for change to policy and practices at the Los Angeles Unified School District, the second largest district in the United States. Our children experiences racism, and anti-Blackness in particular, on a daily basis in LAUSD. We know that racism negatively impacts our children's immediate learning environment as well as long-term health outcomes. Racism literally makes children sick.
Organizations like Black Lives Matter and Students Deserve are fighting for our children and making change. We as parents, family members, and community must join the fight for structural change at LAUSD. This is particularly true for parents who have children in LAUSD schools in the San Fernando Valley, and may not be connected to these organizations and/or The Village Nation.
If we truly desire all of our children to flourish in the public school setting, then changes have to be made. We know that this will take a lot of organizing and hard work for all of us. Changes are only made through direction and indirect action. We invite you to help us reach push for all students to be supported, protected, and celebrated at LAUSD.
All students benefit from anti-racist activism and action. Together we win!
Anti-Black racism, in particular, is palpable in Los Angeles. We watched our own Los Angeles City Council purposely disenfranchise the Black community it represents. We heard their racist remarks, and we watched them refuse to resign their positions.
Making our children's lives matter is urgent. Our children deserve our support.
